As the new chapter president for 2008-2009, I would like to personally welcome you to the Midwest Gateway Chapter (MGC) of the Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS). I have been in healthcare for over 30 years and have participated in MGC for many years. My role as Director of the Program Management Office (PMO) at Barnes-Jewish Hospital has provided me a wealth of knowledge about the many aspects of the health information systems environment which will ultimately help in my leadership of the MGC.
OUR OBJECTIVE is to promote professional approaches to the operation, development and improvement of health care information and management systems that support the provisions of high quality patient care at the lowest practicable costs. To achieve the objective, MGC will:
- plan programs that provide chapter members and other interested persons an opportunity to share ideas and exchange experiences in the field of healthcare information and management systems
- assist members and others in developing their knowledge, increasing their effectiveness and maintaining high-quality standards of performance through continuing education
- plan and conduct training and educational programs designed to promote an understanding of information and management systems in health care
- develop and maintain appropriate relationships with other local and national associations and societies concerned with the improvement of information and management systems
GOALS: I am energized after meeting with our new board at the recent Leadership Transition meeting held June 20, 2008. The sharing of ideas by this dedicated and talented volunteer board coupled with feedback gained from the recent membership survey, provided the foundation for the 2008-2009 MGC goals listed below:
- Monitor & continue to expand the student mentoring program
- Increase the number of scholarship applicants
- Increase chapter membership
- Develop more involvement and support from our vendor community
- Increase the involvement of local and state government representatives
- Focus on CPHIMS certification of members by providing review an study sessions
- Schedule, in advance, many exciting educational programs that will enhance our chapter and renew the interest of our members.
- Share the exciting events of our chapter with our members on the MGC website, newsletters and emails
MEMBERSHIP: Currently, we serve over 200+ members in the Midwest Gateway Chapter. A Member Social is being planned to review programs for the year and to discuss how members can get involved. I look forward to meeting you and hope you can come. Stay tuned for the date, time and location which will be posted on the MGC website after our first board meeting on August 1.
We look forward to your continued support of our local chapter and invite you to become more involved by spreading the mission and goals of our chapter with your friends and colleagues. If you know someone that might be interested in joining the MGC, please direct them to: HIMSS Membership
SPONSORS are needed for events. Please contact myself or any of the board members listed on the website if you are interested.
Be sure to visit the chapter’s website often for a listing of programs and events.
